Wash days are usually happy days. You get to spend time with your hair again probably after weeks or maybe months. It is that time when water finally gets to touch your scalp after a long time. There are some things you probably have not thought about yet when it comes to wash day and that is why I have got your back. In this article you’d see 6 ways to make the most out of your wash days.

  1. Work in sections. on wash days and every other day you are dealing with your hair, It is much more easier to work in sections. It saves you time and gives you control over your hair. You can start by parting your hair into 4 and then further part each of the four sections into 2 or four again depending on your hair length. The shorter your hair, the more parts you may need to work with.
  2. Use warm water for your pre-poo solution. Warm water opens the cuticles of your hair. You need those cuticles opened so that your hair can absorb all the goodies from your products. In case you do not know what pre-poo is, pre-poo is basically a short exercise to prep your hair for washday. It’s essence is to protect your hair strands and also to detangle your hair before you wash your hair. It is usually the first step of your washday routine. Of course after sectioning your hair.
  3. Use warm water when washing out your shampoo. The essence of this is to still keep your cuticles open. You perhaps have been thinking about how your hair could absorb all the goodies before and after washday. An open cuticle is the key to your hair absorbing these goodies.
  4. Leave your conditioner in your hair for a good amount of time. The conditioner is meant to protect your hair and to also make it look smooth and nice. However, leaving a non leave in conditioner in your hair for a very long time weighs your hair down. So if you’re taking a shower after washing your hair, it is okay to leave the conditioner in your hair as you bath the rest of your body. For deep conditioners, a good 30 minutes to 1 hour is okay. If the conditioner does not state that you should or can leave it overnight, please don’t.
  5. Use cold water to rinse off your conditioner. Cold water because cold water closes the cuticles of your hair. So after feeding your hair with the goodies in your conditioner, it is prudent to wash it off with cold water to close them. You know what makes your hair look frizzy? Opened cuticles….yes, opened cuticles make your hair frizzy and that is never the result we desire after the hard work and probably a hand and neck work during washday.
  6. Do not use regular towels to dry your hair. The fiber in regular towels is really rough and that is the last thing you want to be rubbing your hair with. Instead, you can use a micro fiber towel or a cotton T-shirt.

Takeaway.
