5 WORSE HAIR CARE SINS AND MAKING THEM GOODSINS

5 goodsins in the hair care community

When caring for your hair, there are a number of things you should not shy away from doing. Contrary to what you may have read or what you know, not all the sins in your opinion are actually sins or bad hair care practices. Provided you let the sins work in your favour lol… in this post, we would be looking at  5 hair care practices you should not shy away from. Aka, goodsin in the hair community. I would point out sins in the hair care community and how to make them GOODSINS

  1. Using heat during deep conditioning. The sin here is using heat in general. You must have heard or read that, heat is bad for your hair but sis, bro, chill. I am here to tell you there is bad and good heat in the hair community depending on how you use it. A number of us fear heat so much that, we stick to air drying after washday. Well that’s a story for another day. Applying heat while deep conditioning is one sure way to get the nutrients in your deep conditioner to penetrate your hair. Here is why, heat opens up your hair cuticles. Yes! Lest you did not know, your hair has cuticles which are the outermost part of your hair. Instead of letting your products just sit on your hair, commit the goodsin of applying heat to open your cuticles and allowing your hair to absorb all the goodness from your deep conditioner. check this https://alijosesays.allmediagh.tech/2023/05/19/6-helpful-wash-day-tips-you-never-thought-of-for-your-next-wash-day/ it's a goodsin to use heat for deep conditioning
  2. Using a comb only at the pre poo stage of washday.
The sin here is using a comb. I know what manipulation is sis, I know you are scared of manipulating your hair by combing it but sissss, you can’t be serious right now. Why do we have protective styles or low manipulative styles? The goodsin here is incorporating a comb wisely in your hair journey and that is during the pre poo stage of your wash day. The pre poo stage of washday is to prep your hair for washday. The focus during pre poo is to detangle the hair first.  The cheat here is to be gentle, use the right detangling tool and the right method to detangle your hair. By being gentle, you want to offer your hair all the TLC it needs. In Seun Okimi(hair you tuber)’s voice, “learn to baby your hair” treat your hair as a baby and be gentle. Do not comb your hair harshly. By using the right detangling tools, I mean using a wide tooth comb. Be sure to find the tool that works best for you. If you don’t know where to start from, just start with a regular wide tooth comb. To further explore, check out brushes. Finally by the right method to prepoo
a.) You want to finger detangle first,
    b) Apply your source of slip(detangling conditioner, your conditioner mixed with water or coconut oil)
    c) Comb from the ends of your hair, to the roots of your hair(the part of your hair closest to the scalp). in as much as our fingers are the biggest combs we have, combs make our lives easier too, be sure to use them the right way.using combs during prepoo is a goodsin
  3. Using a clarifying shampoo once in a while. Once in a while, you’ve got to keep your hair squeaky clean. Clarifying shampoos are designed to strip your hair and scalp of everything it has, build up from product and even from your hair’s natural oils. Yes, the sin here is using a clarifying shampoo always. The goodsin is to use it once a month or once in a while.  An instance is when you take down a protective style.  You know all the products(oils, gel for braiding, mousse, sheen spray) used during the entire styling process, have no where to go, but to stay on your scalp. while hey build up on the scalp, it’s smart to use a clarifying shampoo to take them off. To identify clarifying shampoos, look out for cleaning surfactants  like (sulfate) yes so shampoos with sulphate something as their first 3 ingredients are usually clarifying shampoos. They also look clear. Not in the sense that the are colourless, but in the sense that, you can see through them though they have a colour, and example is the sulphur 18 shampoo using a clarifying shampoo is a goodsinit’s yellow in colour but then you could still see through it.

  4. Stretching your relaxers or texlaxers. In as much as new growth could be a bother to our relaxed sisters, it is a goodsin to stretch your relaxers and texlaxers, the cheat is this, stretching out your texlaxers and relaxers, gives room for maximum new growth and prevents over processing already processed hair.
it's a goodsin to mark your calenders 2 to 3 months apart for relaxer days
  5. Being selective about your hair treatments. Treatments are great for the hair and a way of showing your hair love. However, it is a sin to give your hair treatment without consulting it first. The different hair treatments you see cater for different needs. Example, your hair is snapping off easily between your fingers(it lacks moisture) but because you didn’t consult your hair, you gave it a clay mask to clarify your scalp. Also, you may not know a clay mask clarifies your scalp and hair by taking away build-up. You then go ahead to wash it off with a clarifying shampoo, at this point, it is no longer a sin, but a crime. To make this a goodsin, you have to be selective with your hair treatments. Be sure to cater for the needs of your hair rather than just putting anything in your hair. Note that, your hair needs moisture(deep conditioning) when a strand snaps between your fingers. Your hair needs protein treatment when it does not snap off easily between your fingers and it does not return to it’s original state after stretching it. I hope this post gave you insight and helped you identify some of the sins you commit on your hair care and hair journey. Let’s know which sin you commit the most in the comment section. Be sure to surrender if you have committed the crime in point 5.
